Punctuation is the only form of communication that doesn’t have phonetics, accents, or alphabetic characters. It’s the only form of written language that can change the exact same sentence intention with single symbol.
Punctuation changes sound, emotion, intention, meaning, and focus. A singer can sing the exact same phrase with the exact melody, and change the punctuation at the end of the line to drastically alter mood. A parent can change, “Come here.” to “Come here!” and elicit a different rate of speed that a child rushes over with hope or fear. An actor can deliver the same words from the script, but change the punctuation, and it affects how the audience responds to their fictional character with real emotion.
Punctuate evokes emotion, intent, questioning, mood, emotion, focus, diversion, and dreams. We are interpreters of story, understanding, and desires. We are translators of ideas, dreams, and visions. We are sign language, megaphones, and whispers as we constantly punctuate life, business, and art.
